    BUTL Conference Announced

    The first ever student and community Taekwon-Do conference has been announced for November 27th 2021, at the University of Manchester. An exciting collection of talks, workshops, training and awards will be on offer, creating opportunities for attendees to network and expand their journey within Taekwon-Do.     National Student Taekwon-Do Awards Announced

    With great excitement we are honoured to reveal and announce the first ever National Student Taekwon-Do Awards. The annual ceremony will recognise the achievements and dedication within the student Taekwon-Do community. The first event is scheduled for November 2021 and details can be found here

    University World Championships Postponed

    05/03/21

    Due to the ongoing pandemic and consultations with the government, home office and travel ministers we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event until March 25th-27th 2022. The press release can be viewed here and all updates are now available on the webpage here

    Return to Training Guidelines Update

    Seminar Series Success

    20/02/21

    This weekend we held the sixth of our free online seminar series events. The session included 48 students from across 27 different Institutions all participating and training together. The seminar was conducted by not one but two legendary instructors, Master Dana VII Dan and Sabum Pascal VI Dan, all the way from Belgium.

    Irish Student National Squad Announced

The team will welcome students from Irish universities and colleges, providing them with their own identity and opportunities to compete internationally.     Seminar Series Success

    This month we held the fourth and fifth of our free online seminar series events. The sessions both included 52 students from across 31 different Institutions all participating and training together. The seminar was conducted by legendary instructor and Master Natasa Manavaki all the way from Greece.

    National Squad Coach Appointment

    We are pleased to announce that Miss Angelica Celinska has been appointed as assistant national squad coach for the U.K. student national team. We look forward to seeing how Miss Celinska develops the athletes.

    University World Championships Update

    Today we announced an update regarding the world championships event. After conducting thorough research and hearing from 107 institutions and 23 organisations we have made the decision to announce the event will take place across the 16th-18th July 2021.     Toy Appeal Success

    10/12/2020

    We would like to thank everyone who donated to our Charity Toy Appeal this year. We received an incredible 235 donations from across the UK. This will make a huge difference to so many and we must thank everyone for their support. A great way to end the year 2020. Donations have now been picked up and taken to the charities.

    Olympic Squad Trials

    31/10/2020

    This weekend two of the U.K. and Ireland National Squad members, Mr Mark Bennett and Mr Sam Tudor were selected to trial for the GB Olympic Programme. Both athletes took part in trials and assessment at the Olympic facility in Manchester. We wish the best of luck to both athletes.

    Award Recognition

    We are delighted to reveal that BUTL Founder and National Squad Coach Mr Sharman has been awarded a General Choi Hong Hi Award for his work and service to University Taekwon-Do. The organisers received a nomination from University Students who collaborated and put together a group nomination. Congratulations Sir.

    National Squad Assistant Coach Appointment

    09/10/2020

    We are delighted to announce the latest addition to the BUTL family is Mr Arron Matharu, who will be our second Assistant Coach for the Student National Squad. Mr Matharu has a decorated career in both University and International Taekwon-Do, achieving the accolades of World and European Champion alongside championship medals within the University Leagues whilst studying as a Masters student at Loughborough University. Welcome to the team sir!

    Return to Training Update

    23/09/2020

    As of the 22nd September, the government announced new rules that related specifically to indoor sports. This added confusion and uncertainty to University Taekwon-Do in particular, and needed clarification. We are pleased to announce that this does not affect Taekwon-Do and martial arts as we are classed as individual sport in our training, meaning groups larger than 6 can still train together if all 2 metres apart.     Grand Master Sutherland 1 Year Tribute

    Today we honour the anniversary of the passing of Grand Master Sheena Sutherland IX Dan. We sadly lost GMS 1 year ago today. Her memory and dedication to Taekwon-Do will never be forgotten, a true supporter of student Taekwon-Do and an advocate for equal representation. We will be honouring GMS at the University World Championships in 2021.

    Return to Training Guidance

The document includes all government and health official guidelines along with our recommendations on how to further deliver the safest and best possible experience among such restrictions.

    2020/21 Academic Year Programme Revealed

    We are excited to reveal our brand new programme for the 2020/21 academic year. While some bits are still under wraps we thought we’d reveal what’s planned in order to give everyone an idea of what to expect this upcoming year. As the year is going to be different to others, we’ve created a bespoke programme with new events alongside standardised competitions to provide opportunities for all.     Help Save University of Bath’s Venue

    Yesterday we were contacted by the University of Bath’s martial art clubs regarding a campaign they’ve launched to save their current training facility. The Taekwon-Do club have been involved in many BUTL events and we know how important having a safe and secure venue is for students. The teams have had fantastic successes at competition and their members deserve to be able to continue this coming year.     1st University World Championships Re-Scheduled

    With the 1st ever University Taekwon-Do Championships set to take place back in April 2020, we made the decision in early March 2020 to postpone the Championships due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. With further research and safety at the front of our decisions we can now announce we have been able to re-schedule the event to 5th-7th March 2021. Same location, same details, same everything.     Student National Squad Selection

    After a record breaking 87 applications to join the UK and Ireland Student National Squad, we are pleased to reveal the 23 students who were successfully selected.
