Before coming to university, I had never participated in any sports teams, never mind a martial art. I never would have associated myself with those ‘sporty’ people who teased me in school relentlessly. I never would have imagined myself sparring people in competitions, training multiple times a week and meeting so many different people.
BUTL have provided me with so many different experiences and memories that I would have otherwise thought impossible. I’ve grown so much as an individual and gained back the confidence and determination that I lost.
Even though I still find it hard to be confident and can be very sceptical of my ability; I reflect on what I have accomplished as part of this team.
I have learnt so much about my ability and the strength in being part of a team. Although I still have a lot to learn (and stretch), it’s an exciting path that BUTL have helped to pave and for that I am very thankful.
